One Year Bible
Old Testament passage for Saturday, January 19, 2013: Genesis 39:1-41:16
But the Lord was with Joseph and showed him mercy, and He gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison. Genesis 39:21 (NKJV)
Favor in a prison seems to be a very odd combination. It would seem that favor would keep you from ever being in the prison. But, God sees these things differently from the way we see them. God allowed a succession of very negative situations to unfold in Joseph's life. They were, in fact, downright evil and treacherous at times. Despite all these things, Scripture says that the favor of God was on him.
Even in a prison, Joseph prospered. And you can, too. God does not respond to the direness of the circumstances. He responds to the direction of the heart. If our hearts are toward Him, He will take the worst of problems and transform them into a platform for His glory. That's what happened to Joseph.
The temporary setbacks of today are the setups for the advancement of tomorrow. Joseph is a picture of how God works. His life, in many ways, is a parable for the Body of Christ in our day. Joseph had a very strong prophetic streak running through him. He was an interpreter of dreams.
God is once again preparing a "Joseph People" to speak to the king and break open the provisions and promises of God. The negative betrayals and setbacks of today are but stepping stones toward destiny. God's favor rests on His people even during days in the prison. The day will come soon that RELEASE will come.
In that day, all the hard times will finally make sense. We are a "Joseph People."
Thanks, once again, for your insight into the Word.
