"One Year Bible" New Testament Passage
Acts 6:1-15
8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and signs among the people... 10 And they (Stephen's enemies) were not able to resist the wisdom and the Spirit by which he spoke. Acts 6:8,10 (NKJV)
The Bible is filled with stories of ordinary people who did extraordinary things. Stephen is one of them. In the early church, there is no doubt that the apostles held a very special place. The weight of leadership fell on them and they simply could not do everything that needed doing. Their primary responsibility was prayer and the ministry of the Word.
As a result, many were needed to step forward to do what might seem to be menial tasks like waiting on tables and handling daily distributions. Stephen was raised up to do difficult and demanding tasks that appeared to be very selfless in nature.
But, then we find a great truth: God uses ordinary people doing ordinary jobs and He accomplishes extra-ordinary results. The anointing of the Holy Spirit fell on Stephen as he waited on those tables. God started using him in miraculous ways.
It really doesn't matter what your job is - if God starts working in it, miracles start happening. Many people are waiting for some new promotion or some special invitation to begin walking in God's power. But God calls you to give your best in that which is before you today. He will take that and multiply the results. That's how Stephen became one of the heroes of the Book of Acts.
