"One Year Bible" New Testament Passage
Acts 7:1-50
“However, the Most High does not dwell in temples made with hands, as the prophet says: 49 ‘Heaven is My throne, And earth is My footstool. What house will you build for Me? says the Lord, Or what is the place of My rest? 50 Has My hand not made all these things?’ Acts 7:48-50 (NKJV)
One of the themes that runs throughout Scripture is the question: "Where does God reside on earth?" "Where is God's dwelling place?"
Since the time that Adam and Eve were expelled from the Garden of Eden, men have been seeking the place where they could meet again with God face to face. When God appeared to Abram, he called the place Bethel, which means "house of God". Moses built the tabernacle in the wilderness which predicted the way in which God would some day fully relate with His people. The Temple of Solomon was nothing more than expansion of this basic model of the God-to-man relationship.
Man's problem is that we look for all the right things in all the wrong places. We look for buildings and houses, for gold, for grandeur, for the trappings of earthly beauty. At best these can only point to something bigger, grander, and more wonderful.
There is one truly sacred place on earth. It is the temple where man meets God. It is a heart that has been made clean and whole by the very act of God Himself. Where does Almighty God reside? Amazing! He resides in every person who has received the mighty work of God in the redemption of fallen man.
