"One Year Bible" New Testament Passage
Romans 11:13-36
Therefore consider the goodness and severity of God: Romans 11:22 (NKJV)
God NEVER CEASES TO AMAZE ME! There will always be new depths of truth, of insight, of revelation, of wonder .... of worship .... as we draw near to Him. At the end of this chapter, Paul has a bit of a "Hallelujah Breakdown". He bursts into praise at the awesome vastness and glory of the knowledge of God.
It has been said that there are supposed "contradictions" in the Bible. Some have accused that there are "discrepancies" within truth. But, the contradiction is not in God. It is IN US. We want to be able to capture God -- to capsulize Him. We want to bring Him down to be contained within OUR minds. When He goes beyond our ability to understand, we criticize Him. Some may even hate Him. BUT GOD IS STILL GOD.
In our childish way, we want Him to be totally predictable. But, within His Person will always be that which is BEYOND us. Incidentally, this is the basic meaning of "holy". In Him will always be a combination of goodness and severity, of justice and mercy ... of transcendence and imminence ... of unity and diversity ... of love and judgment. And the list can go on.
There are aspects of God's truth that I do not yet understand. There are ways that He works in my life that are hard for me to put together. There are turns in the road that can confuse me. But GOD IS STILL GOD. And He is awesome. It is Him I will follow!
