A Man God Can Trust

One Year Bible
Old Testament passage for Tuesday, January 8, 2013: Genesis 18:16-19:38

17 Then the Lord said, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do? 18 Abraham will surely become a great and powerful nation, and all nations on earth will be blessed through him. 19 For I have chosen him, so that he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just, so that the Lord will bring about for Abraham what he has promised him.”  Genesis 18:17-19 (NIV)

We speak often of being people who trust God.  But what about being a person God can trust?  Such was Abraham.  He was called a "friend of God" (II Chron. 20:7 and James 2:23).  God confided in Abraham.  He did not want to bring judgment upon wicked Sodom and Gomorrah without first discussing it with His friend.

God's eyes go throughout the earth seeking those who will not only listen, but also follow.  Abraham was a man that God could trust.  God knew that Abraham was a man who would direct his children.  He would lead His household.  Abraham was a clear channel through whom the Lord could work.

There is no limit to what God can do through us if we are the kind of people He can trust.  Billy Graham once said that God can cause thousands of dollars to pass through your hands, if you don't grasp at those dollars.  He will entrust great riches, if we don't get sticky fingers.  Can God trust you?

There is unlimited power that God can release if we are people He can trust.  The training He puts us through is not designed to limit us and hurt us.  It is designed to make us people who are under His control so that He can release greater and greater blessing through us.

The discipline of the Lord is not bad.  It is really good, because it is a sign of how much God wants to pour His power through us.  Are you a man or woman God can trust?
