I Corinthians 1:18-2:5
18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. I Corinthians 1:18 (NKJV)
God's ways are not our ways. His ways are higher than our ways as the heavens are above the earth (see Isaiah 55:8-9). When God begins to move in your life, it often causes confusion because we do not understand the way He works. But, He is all wise. He knows what He's doing.
When Jesus spoke to His disciples about the Cross that He would bear, they did not understand. Peter even rebuked the Lord! It just didn't make sense. How can you win by LOSING? How can you succeed by being MURDERED?
The Cross as the means of conquest simply does not make sense. You win wars by killing the ENEMY, not by allowing the enemy to kill you!
God has chosen to reveal His great power in the context of the greatest defeat of history. He has chosen to show His power in surrender and in submission. He reveals the greatest light in the midst of the greatest darkness. The Cross, at it's core, is REDEMPTION - not domination. The greatest joy is birthed in the greatest sorrow and grief. The greatest hope rises out of the greatest despair.
The natural man does not understand such wisdom. But, to those who have surrendered, it is the message of our deliverance. Our hope is built not on our self-willed self-advancement. It is built on the One who has overcome - the One who died and rose again.
