A Higher Way of Living

"One Year Bible" New Testament Passage (for Mon., Oct. 8, 2012)
Colossians 3:18-4:18

23 And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ. Colossians 3:23-24 (NKJV)

We live our lives by a higher standard. We do our work with a different motivation. We experience the challenges of daily life just like anyone else, but we react differently.

The reason we can live a different way is because we see the hand of God in all that happens. We see Him in our work circumstances. We see Him in our promotions or demotions. We see Him in every opportunity, every challenge.

If God is involved with us, we can live our lives "heartily" even if things aren't so great. Even when your earthly boss doesn't seem to care, you have a heavenly Boss who is watching out for you. Even when you continually seem to draw the odd assignment, yet there is a heavenly bookkeeper who is taking note.

We live not for man's rewards, but for God's. Scripture speaks of something called "the inheritance." I don't know what that all means, but I do know that when it arrives YOU AND I WILL BE GLAD. We read about "the riches of our inheritance in Christ." That's exciting! Your Boss knows how to reward his servants!
