Colossians 3:1-17
Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. Colossians 3:2 (NKJV)
It is common these days to speak of the difference between head knowledge and heart knowledge. The head is your intelligence - your thinking, while the heart is your experience. Of course, the more important of these is your heart. YOU MUST BE BORN AGAIN. YOU NEED TO BE FILLED WITH GOD'S SPIRIT.
Nothing takes the place of spiritual experience. But, then we might ask, what part does the mind play? While we do not come to the Lord by an exercise of the intellect, yet our minds DO play an important role.
A passionate heart cannot be maintained by an empty head. God wants to feed the fires of spiritual passion by the unfolding beauty of truth impacting our lives. We are to grow in the knowledge of God.
That's why Paul tells us that, if we have received the Lord, if we have experienced the power of His resurrection, there is a next step we must take: SET YOUR MIND on Him and His truth.
You will never grow beyond your mindset. Experience gets you started, but truth will set you free. Don't stay at the starting line. Go on to higher things, richer things, fuller things. FILL YOUR MIND WITH THE WORD OF GOD - WITH LIBERATING TRUTH. Nothing can stop a heart on fire with the love of God and a mind filled with the Word of God!
