Fuel for the Lamps

"One Year Bible" Old Testament History Passage
Leviticus 24:1-25:46

"Command the children of Israel that they bring to you pure oil of pressed olives for the light, to make the lamps burn continually."  Leviticus 24:2 (NKJV)

One of the jobs of priesthood was tending to the lamps inside the tabernacle.  They were commanded to keep these lamps burning continually.  One of the worst moments in the history of God's people came years later when Eli was priest, and the Bible says the lamps nearly went out (I Samuel 3:3).

These lamps are symbolic of the fire of prophetic passion that should burn at the heart of our relationship with God.  One of Satan's major objectives is to put out that fire inside of you.  We are commanded to keep the flame alive.  We are to tend it and to keep it fueled.

In the days of Aaron and Moses, all of the children of Israel were commanded to continually bring to the tabernacle fresh oil to keep the lamps burning.  In similar fashion, we are commanded to do the same today.  There is no fire on earth that can burn without new fuel.  So, what fuel are you bringing to the lamps today?

A strong, vital relationship with God can only be maintained if we are regularly bring oil to the lamps.  This is done by staying in God's Word -- by engaging in heart-felt prayer -- in living a life of face-to-face communion with God.

Are you today being REPLENISHED?  Or are you being DEPLETED?  God wants you to grow stronger each day.  The key to that is finding "pure oil of pressed olives for the light, to make the lamps burn continually."
