A Star Shall Arise

"One Year Bible" Old Testament History Passage
Numbers 24:1-25:18

"I see Him, but not now; I behold Him, but not near; a Star shall come out of Jacob; a Scepter shall arise out of Israel ... Out of Jacob One shall have dominion..."  Numbers 24:17, 19 (NKJV)

Throughout the Old Testament there are pictures and prophecies of the coming King.  All of history points toward one Person.  He has appeared to us the first time as a humble Servant.  He will appear to us the second time as the conquering King.  We have the sure word of prophecy that promises incredible things about our future.  As Christians will LIVE by these prophetic words.

We see Him, but not with physical eyes.  We behold Him, but the manifestations may at times be scarce around us.  We live out of faith in a God who works behind the scenes with a HIDDEN HAND.

The two images about which the prophet spoke are a STAR and a SCEPTER.  Jesus is to us like the stars of heaven.  The stars shine brightest in the darkest of nights.  I have stood on mountain tops in lands where there are no competing street lamps or house lights.  Looking up into the dark night sky is almost shocking in the beauty and clarity of the stars of heaven.

The scepter speaks of God's rulership and His justice.  He chooses now to let His scepter rise in our sights as we trust.  The day will come that it will be unveiled for all to see.  This is the REALITY of the spiritual world that surrounds us now.  We may not see it with outward eyes, but it is there and it is real.

His dominion shall never end.
