The Dark Night Before the Sunrise

"One Year Bible" New Testament Passage (for Tues., Sept. 4, 2012)
II Corinthians 7:8-16

Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death. II Corinthians 7:10 (NIV)

Sometimes things have get worse before they get better. There is always a dark night before a glorious sunrise. The path of repentance and faith is like that.

God does not want to destroy us, He simply wants to bring us to the end of ourselves. He always works to bring us to that place - the place of true repentance.  True repentance is a gift from God in which we see things the way God sees them. We experience a profound knowledge of the depth of our offence. But, that leads us to a rebirth in which we find the grace, we find life, we find hope in Christ.

False repentance is when we are sorry we got caught. False repentance only wants to get the heat off so we can go back to life as usual. Unfortunately, many people live their entire lives never knowing the cleansing that comes from full repentance. They are sorry for what they've done, but they never find cleansing.

If you will allow God to lead you to full and thorough repentance, He will also lead you to a new day of cleansing, freedom, and joy. Out of the deepest true sorrow will come the purest, sweetest joy. That's a promise from God.
